Where are the Claires?

In the 80′s, you knew if it was 8:00pm (Eastern) on a Thursday, because no one was outside, no one was driving, no one was on the phone. What caused this operational stand-down? Where was everybody? They were sitting in on the couch, in the family room, watching NBC. What was on? None other than the Cosby show. The Cosby show was the definition of the black middle-class family. An ideal. A standard. Through its 8 years, the Cosby show subconsciously taught racial tolerance, the value of family bonds, the importance of history and culture, and the belief that effort and education were vehicles to any end imaginable. Most importantly, it defined healthy, and successful relationships. Who cannot look at the longevity of Russell and Anna (the grandparents) with admiration? Who can’t learn from the struggles of Elvin and Sondra? What boy doesn’t grow up looking for his own “Claire”?
